Re: Diegos political statement 1968

Manos
Although Diego's politics were politically Left, there was a limit to his risk-taking, given the dangers at that tme.
This playing of the Marseilles was not done at Casa Pepe (It was generally rumored that the Franco regime or the Guardia Civil or the police had a spy "stationed" at Bar Pepe), but at another less public location. The filming was also done by an American and never really circulated until a couple of years ago.
I will say though that during one of the times when I was in Moron, evidently Diego was taken aside by the police and threatened with a beating unless he kept his mouth a little more closed. (At this point I think Diego had too much status in and out off the town for teh police to actually beat him)
I cannot 100% vouch for the truth of this story, but it was something much talked about in the days following its supposed occurrence

(This story not to be confused with Diego and some friends actaully spending time in jail early in Franco's regime because one of those friends was openly anti-fascist)

Interesting thought that the filming was not at Bar Pepe. If you watch the other unknown Diego videos you will see they are filmed at the same location with Diego looking the same and playing the same guitar. Most are dated 1966 and said to be at Bar Pepe. If you notice this place has a large opening to the outside. Did Bar Pepe have such an opening? You can see there is a breeze outside with branches moving. I think all these videos were filmed at the same time at the same location and not some in 66 and the other in 68. I wonder who took the video?

It was film, not video.
Part of the 22 minute film was filmed at Bar Pepe (the B&W fiesta), the color with Juan Talega, the Marseilles, was not.

Thanks for the clarification on the films which parts are now converted to video. That looks like Fernanda with you on your avatar photo.
