It is important to keep a step ahead of hackers by continually upgrading to the latest releases of new software. Unfortunately, server software upgrades tend to be much more complicated and subject to many more types of problems than do most personal computer software upgrades. After upgrading the Apache web server earlier this morning without incident, I attempted upgrade to the latest version of PHP which caused Apache to be unable to start. Reverting back to the previous version of PHP was a complicated process, resulting in the foro being off-line for about a half-hour. Now I need to try to determine what went wrong before installing the new software again.
