Forum will be Offline during Upgrade (COMPLETED)

Postby admin » 02 Dec 2010, 23:11

I plan to make a large batch of security upgrade patches to the forum software late this afternoon. It will be necessary to take the forum off-line while that is being done.

Most upgrades can be accomplished within 30-minutes or so, but these changes require manually copying and pasting more than 350 blocks of new code into 135 existing code files, so there will be plenty of potential for mistakes. It also is possible that one of more of those changes will conflict with custom extensions I wrote two and a half years ago to add features. Hopefully the forum will be back up quickly, but if not, you can know I will be working on it.

I found an incompatibility during the upgrade that will take some time to overcome, so I temporarily put the old back software online. You are welcome to continue using it whenever it is running, but I probably will take it down for a while again tomorrow (Friday) to continue with the changes.

The most important security software upgrade patches were installed this afternoon. However, there are still more to install and the forum will be occasionally unavailable again during brief intervals while they are being installed.

When members register they can elect to have forum text displayed in any of the languages listed below. So far I have upgraded only U.S. English, British English and Standard French support. You may see some temporary malfunctions until the other languages have been upgraded if you selected any other language when you registered.

The number at the end of each line below is the number of forum members who selected each language when they registered. The letters just before those counts are ISO language designators.
