Re: Battered Old Guitars

Postby MichaelRosado » 07 Dec 2009, 05:35

I found a very battered Jose Lopez Bellido blanca (signed by Bellido) last year at a guitar shop. It was used as the practice guitar for students and one of the instructors there for many years. It was built in 1978. It had several small cracks on the back and sides and one below the bridge that had been repaired. Two holes for a pickup were on treble side and bottom of guitar (pickup had been added at some point in time by someone). The fretboard was also cracked a little at the 14th/15th frets. The back of the guitar was riddled with light indentations where the teacher had flipped it over to write notes and tabs on a piece of paper for his students. I paid $250 for the guitar. I fixed some of the smaller cracks, cleaned her up, put new strings on, and she sounds wonderful----the sound is what atracted me in the first place, not the price. It was incredible. The sound----loud, solid basses and clear, crisp trebles. She's a blanca and sounds as good as some students guitars I've played costing $1700 or more. Can't beat the sound.
