Broadcast your flamenco live!

Postby SamC » 01 Apr 2010, 12:13

Check it out. Taos has started doing live flamenco guitar broadcast. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/tao-ruspoli
This could be the start of the e jurga! http://www.ustream.tv/about

If any of our members start doing this, please give times and dates of broadcast. This could be a great learning tool and also provide real entertainment.

Tomas, No, not like utube. It is a live broadcast like a TV station. You have a webcam and mic on your computer and then you sign up for this site and you announce what times you are going to broadcast and we tune in and listen and watch your live performance. No recording, no redos, just live playing. I haven't tried it yet as I don't have a webcam or ever experimented with it and didn't know about it until I read a message from Taos on Facebook that he had made a couple of broadcast playing some improvisational stuff just to experiment.

The way it would work is you would sign up and get set up to connect to it, then announce here on the forum what day and time you are going to make a broadcast and viewers would have to make sure they adjusted their time to match yours. Same as watching a TV program. I think in the near future we will have a site where we can all connect and see and talk to each other and play, etc. I call it the coming of the e juerga. If I get word of another flamenco broadcast happening, I will post the time on the forum. If this goes over successfully, maybe we can have a place on the forum so members can announce their broadcast times.

One thing that appeals to me about it is if one plays live and makes mistakes there is no recording to haunt you forever. I see it as a way for anyone to hone their skills playing live and might be an inspiration to try to improve. Also might be fun.

Hola Sam
Many thanks for your help in explaining this.
I am not sure what I think so I offer here a few ideas hopefully for discussion.
At first it sounds great. If you guitarists over there in the USA are having a juerga I can watch and feel a part of it but of course I will have to maybe stay up at 3 in the morning to see that.
This could be OK.
But then I think of my life since I have been here in England and compare to back in Cartagena.
We have a festival in the summer of music called Mar de Músicas.
An ancient roman theatre was uncovered so the council restored it and we now go to outdoor concerts there.
You see we all go even if the music is not necessarily our favourite. We get a big plastic cup of wine or beer and a big Spanish sandwich and we go for the party atmosphere.
Then I start to remember the time I lived in Santander in the north and it was always raining and we all still always went out. The rain was usually light but like lunatics we stood in the town squares drinking our wine in the night with the rain.
We walked home from the theatre at night and got ice cream.
I mean to say in Spain everyone goes out all the time. For a concert or for nothing or who knows. We just live outside of the house.
Now I am in England and I find it is impossible to get the English to get out of the house.
Sorry my English friends I don’t mean to offend.
I guess everything here is so expensive. Someone told me about a flamenco concert near me but at 17.00 UK pounds that is much more than I will pay to see the top people in Spain. So I cannot afford it.
So maybe this idea of the live is good because that way if I cannot go I can still see.
But my fear is that it could encourage even more people to seek a cyber on line life.
Sometimes my wife and I we go to London to find Spanish bar. I maybe do not share all the ideas of the other Spanish guys but we just need to find people.
OK I realise I am writing quite bad tonight so I hope that someone else will reply and make more sense than me.
Buenas noches amigos
