Doog hasn't posted here for a long time, but he mentioned a year or two ago that he had gut strings on one or more of his guitars.

Paco De Lucia was once asked; what guitar strings do you use? He responded " whatever is available". With guitar playing it's: 80% player, 19% guitar and 1% strings.

Wow what a great topic this is really. We could go on and on. I have tried all of the brands already mentioned, and each time I went back to the La Bella 820 reds. On my guitar anyway they sound better than the Luthier's (too clean), the Hannabach's (no power), the Savarez (second best I love them actually), and the D'Addarios which I find very hard in terms of the bass strings. I really think that different guitars like different strings though so the fun part is trying out a bunch. I couldn't agree with you more about the Conde Hermanos strings, what a gimmick. The strings where meh at best.

Hola Amigo:
I am surprised to read that Paco de Lucía said that.
To me absolutely everything is important.
Of course Paco is a great virtouso but to me the right guitar with the right strings for me is most helpful.
Just a thought.

I agree man, for Paco every detail counts. He has mentioned the importance of nail length, also the special resin he and Vicente use for the index fingers to help with the picado and so on. I suppose any of the above mentioned string brands would work and can sound great right everyone? But on my guitar the difference between using D'addario and La Bella 820 reds is like the difference between a guitar that sounds vaguely classical or flamenco.
