Guitars we own

Postby Victor » 27 Mar 2010, 22:57

So how many guitars do we all own ? What are they ? Are there any you would want ?

I have three . My first which i bought about five years ago when on holiday and decided i wanted to learn the guitar , i suspect shes made from the wood you get orange crates from , corragated cardboard and the fret board from balsa lol .The maker label just say Carmen , with hindsight should of asked for help lol .

Second guitar is a Vicente sanchis which was given to me by friend at work , she had a been dropped and cracked plus the headstock was broken at the top . It was a great pleasure in repairing her and learning the basics of french polishing .

Third guitar is the Manuel Conde which is in need of repair and hopefully will be getting round to that soon .

Over to you gentlmen .

I have four guitars:

'66 Ramírez A1 classical, machine head, Brazilian rosewood back and sides reinforced with cypress and with an American western red cedar top.

'72 Contreras flamenco negra, machine head, Brazilian rosewood back and sides reinforced with cypress and with an American western red cedar top.

'77 Ramírez A1 flamenco blanca, peg head, cypress back and sides reinforced with cypress and with an American western red cedar top.

'09 Tsiorba flamenco blanca, peg head, Alaskan yellow cedar back and sides and with an Englemann spruce top.

Another I want if I sell the Dominguez would be another Tsiorba with Mexican Mesquite B & S if the Mesquite my local bluegrass guitar maker friend has looks good when he cuts into it. Looks great now and seems to have good tonal qualities, but still needs split.

I also would like another Tsiorba, probably a negra, but I should sell my '66 Ramírez A1 classical or '72 Contreras flamenco negra before acquiring another guitar, because it is ridiculous for an amateur playing mostly for his own amusement to have so many fine guitars.

Victor, Keep the guitar shop idea on the mum. Our wives don't need any ideas. You never told us what you want if you were to get another flamenco guitar. What is your dream guitar?

This thread will be interesting when others join in. I know some of our members have over 6 guitars all concert quality.

A cautionary note: some years ago a similar "what do you own?" thread was done on an open-forum classical list. One person was burglarized a few weeks later, and based on the fact that *all* his guitar cases were opened but that only the two or three finest guitars were stolen, suggested that the burglar may well have read this information on the e-list.

Victor, Are you using the heaver nylon cord like Tony Arnold does or the fishing line with the leather. I had trouble with the leather and fish line denting my cedar neck at the top. No problem at all with Tony's method. Would like to see some photos of your cejillas. Maybe post them in the guitar maker section when you have them done.
