Paco Pena Misa Flamenca DVD

Postby SamC » 29 Dec 2008, 18:56

My granddaughter sent me this video for Christmas. She goes to a catholic school and the music teacher there recommended this video after my granddaughter told her I played flamenco and was teaching her some. I don't get to see her often and so far have taught her only the basic rhythm to soleares and a remate. I was amazed how fast she learned the remate at age 7. Anyway some of you might find this video interesting. It is a combination of mass and flamenco. I am not catholic and no nothing about mass, but I found this creation of Pena's entertaining and intriguing. Awesome guitar playing and singing with a traditional sound.

A couple of the sections from the very beautiful Misa Flamenca were broadcast on Classical Guitar Alive the other year - 18 February 2007 being the last time according to my notes. Is this the performance with The Academy of St Martins In The Fields?

This was from the the KFMA Radio station archive, which hosts the Classical Guitar Alive show, and they've stopped holding their program archive online due to the RIAA action. I have something like 60 issues of the show, including the flamenco broadcast downloads, but they're more than 50Mb in size each, which probably makes e-mailing them around a no-no.

I don't have the DVD and haven't seen the video, but I have the CD and have listened to the music for years. Paco Pena is a wonderful player. It is difficult to imagine that there would be anyone who wouldn't find his Misa Flamenca inspiring.
