Tomas Jimenez utube flamenco instruction

Postby SamC » 19 Jan 2009, 14:33

Tomas has 3 videos on utube of basic flamenco guitar classes he instructed. I found them outstanding especially the Soleares basics. This one is Rumba and Soleares

Sam this is really useful. It illustrates the pinkie point we discussed. I just hope soon I can get a few sessions with Tomas. I just get the feeling that you could sit on a patio with Tomas and a bottle of wine or two, and in three hours you'd have enough material for half a year. Just need to record it all because his enthusiasm is so infectious it's like your on a train  .

Well must pick up my wife flying in from Madrid tomorrow, so must tidy up, but just watching these videos means I just got to play my Alegrias.

And one day I must conquer that rumba - so much to do and so little time

Hola Amigos,

Thank you very much for looking at my work and I do hope that it can be of help to other guitarists. It is taken from the class that I give for flamenco guitar in Milton Keynes Adult education. We have some new students now after Christmas and it offers a practical way for people to try flamenco guitar classes.

About patio and wine well we hope in the future to either return to Spain or to buy a second home there and then we would offer flamenco courses. Of course I can do the same in my garden in England, but as the British know we would have to have a second plan in case of rain!

About the lovely guitar: it is made by Pablo Requena of Malaga but he now has a workshop in Lewes, Sussex, England. I like it a lot for the sound of course but also because it is so exceptionally easy to play so it is very appropriate for long concerts or many hours of teaching.

Saludos

Tomás

Tomas your videos have been a great help to me as well as your informative post. Have you ever met Phillip John Lee? I remember him from the early 70's. Turn up your volume and visit his webpage ....

It seems the UK has some great flamenco. I think you and Phillip would have a great sound in a duo.

Hola Sam:

I keep meaning to reply. No, I have never met him but I had heard his web site a few months ago and I wrote to him to say that I liked how he plays so I will look to see if I see him in concert.

Saludos
