zaya-ruzo strings

Postby at_leo_87 » 26 Oct 2008, 06:21

these are, by far, the cheapest set of strings i have found. $1.99 for a set. $15.99 for ten sets.

i just recently put a set on my guitar. it sounded okay at first but they keep sounding better and better. the strings were really cold when i got them in the mail, the extra sets i have are still actually cold and i got them 3 days ago. i'm sure nylon works better when warm so this could be why they keep sounding better and better, as they're warming up and breaking in.

has anyone else tried and/or have an opinion of them?

Never heard of them. Are they Chinese made? $1.99 is great if they sound ok and LAST! I am still on the first set of D'Addario ... can't wear them out. For the money I think the D'Addario are the best buy as they don't wear out easily. I would have worn out 3 sets of any other basses by now. I still perfer the La Bella 820 tone and playability, but these D' Ards aren't quitters. I play with a heavy hand because of nerve loss and wear basses out quickly, but not these tough guys.

they're made in the u.s.a. and from high quality material according to their website.

the first day, the D string became unwound at several places. but again, i think it's because they were basically frozen.

they don't use any fancy packaging, just straight into a big envelope.

i play with a heavy hand too, so if i can find cheap strings that sound good and last as anywhere near as long as d'addarios do, they'll do it for me. at least for practice strings. recording, i might use other strings.

i'll give an update on these strings in a couple weeks. because $1.99 is a good deal and i like to spread good deals onto others :D

so i've had these strings on for 2 weeks.
they're actually quite impressive. especially the trebles. the basses aren't as impressive but still pretty good. i won't really know until i put another set on. so far, they don't have the "snap" that i'm looking for.

makes me wonder if we sometimes trick ourselves into thinking something is good just because we paid more for it.
for how cheap they are, they definitely counter the saying, "you get what you pay for."

unfortunately, it seems like they're closing shop soon.

Good News. Zaya-Ruzo is resuming production of these fine strings. In fact, I am the exclusive retailer of Zaya-Ruzo Strings and sell them on my website. I also make harpsichords and lute-harpsichords or lautenwerke. I have been using the Zaya-Ruzo copper-wound strings on my lautenwerke for 8 years and love them. I will probably take over string production when Anatoly is really ready to retire. My Website is www.lautenwerk.com All sizes should be in stock by June 23. I look forward to providing you with these fine strings. Best regards, Steven Sorli, Amherst, MA.

Welcome to the forum Steven. I love harpsichords. I don't play, but listen to recordings frequently. You have some beautiful instruments at your website. It must take a lot of time to make them.

I also had never heard of Zaya-Ruzo guitar strings before. Guitar players always seem interested in experimenting with new strings in the hope they will sound better or last longer than anything tried before.

I often think the same thing, especially regarding wine. I have had extremely expensive wines that didn't taste as good to me as wines that cost far less. A fancy name and label combined with a big price can convince most people that a product is truly exceptional even where it is truly ordinary. I think that is true of some brands of guitars strings.

Steven, Back in the 70's I made part of my income as a piano tuner and technician. I had plans to make a harpsicord, but never did. I did repair and tune a few. I had Frank's book up until a couple of years ago when I sold it. You work reflects your studies with the master. Beautiful instruments.

How do the zaya-ruzo strings last? I like the idea of the 5 meter coil. I can see where in 5 meters if cut to exact size needed, one could get an extra string or two over precut sets. Also like the idea of getting just the bass string in the gauge desired. Thanks for your post.

On a lute-harpsichord the Zaya-Ruzo strings last 4 to 6 years. I am sure they won't last that long on a guitar. I did notice that the Zaya-Ruzo seemed a lot stronger than comparable Pyramid strings I had tried.
