My new website

Postby Prominent Critic » 17 Oct 2010, 19:35

I've been selling classical and flamenco guitars for a long time, but only locally out of my studio, drawing business just from in and around New York. Recently I decided to go national, and I have a new website.

I specialize in factory guitars, including some makes that seem to be hard to find in the USA. I've always worked on a small margin to keep my prices low, and I am continuing to do that, and with a lowest price guarantee. I'm offering free shipping on all guitars.

I'm considering building a special section with free listings for luthiers, teachers, and performers to advertise their websites and/or services, with general and contact information, etc. Thoughts on this appreciated.

I invite members to take a look at my website. Constructive (no pun intended :D ) comments welcome. Thanks.

Ramon

The artwork at the top of the page is superb. Your content is good too.

I'd leave the free listings section until you have some sales going. The last thing you want to be is "another free listings site."

I agree. That can significantly reduce search engine result rankings and even cause a website to be removed from search engine databases. A few links to highly-ranked websites that are closely associated with the content of a site are appropriate and can even help rankings if a website has a considerable amount of unique textual content, but having "free for all listings" on a site with limited content is a sure way to reduce or even totally eliminate search engine traffic.

Alan and Bob -
Thank you so much for your comments, and for your advice. I have already deconsidered (hey - I think I might have just this moment spontaneously coined a new word. Has anyone ever heard that word before? It's really cool - it consolidates two steps into one - first you reconsider something, then you decide against it - deconsider. I'll have to apply to Encyclopedia Brittanica for credit.

Where was I? Oh yes - I have already deconsidered it. Being tech challenged i was not aware of any effect on search engine rankings etc.

The painting is by the famous American painter, John Singer Sargent. It is entitled "El Jaleo." It is hanging in the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum in Boston. I have seen this painting in person, and it is unbelievable. It takes up a whole wall, and is almost life size.

Thanks again for your comments.
