Re: My fabulous Jeff Sigurdson Blanca!

The action is really nice, string height 2.5mm at the 12th fret, Jeff did offer to lower it for me if desired. There is very little buzzing, only a tiny bit when playing with the capo high. It is quite loud and well balanced with a very thin lacquer finish. My teacher, Stephen Boswell (an excellent guitarist), said he liked it so much he wanted to buy it. I highly recommend Jeff's guitars.

Wow! Sounds like a nice action for any flamenco and especially for a $1000 guitar. I can see Jeff's list getting long in a hurry. I can't really think of a guitar like this as a student guitar. It sounds like a flamenco guitar that anyone could use. Great juerga guitar. If it got damaged not so much of a financial loss, but the emotional loss would probably be the same. Anxious to hear some sound clips even if you just strum some basic chords on play a few simple notes up and down the neck. I am always interested in hearing the response of instruments. Maybe if you are unable to play much now, you could record your teacher playing it.

I can still play a bit, enough to demonstrate the guitars capabilities anyway. Seeing as I have no recording equipment on hand, anyone know of an economical yet effective method for me to convey some sounds?

Here are a couple recordings I made with my new ZoomH2 digital recorder which I am finding quite versatile for simple acoustic recordings. I am here using one of the rubber fingertips from staples over my wounded index finger :D
I have savarez corum alliance classical strings on it at the moment, but soon I am going to try out some flamenco strings which have recently arrived in the post.

Congratulations on getting that Zoom H2. I tried several recorders before it and it was the perfect one. It did more to help my practice than anything.

Now the guitar has excellent traditional tone. Much better IMO than Spanish factory guitars for $2000. Amazing that Jeff can produce such a nice guitar for such a price.

I was impressed by your playing. The siguiriyas was played very well and clean. Nice rasqueados and I got the feeling of the palo from your playing. Maybe I should try some of those rubber finger tips. Going postal might be the clue to improving my playing. LOL!

Very nice in every way and looking forward to more recording of your playing. Sounds like you maybe more of an intermediate than beginner.

Thanks for the kind words guys! :D

@Manos: The zoomh2 is a lot of fun, especially since it can record straight to mp3 format. more useful than the other more expensive recorders for what I want to do.
I have only had this guitar for a few months but the sound keeps getting better and better, I think it is now even louder than when I first got it. I've played a couple of my instructors guitars and they are excellent too.
I have been unsure whether to think of myself as beginner or intermediate, or between the two, as flamenco itself is, I think, an advanced style and more difficult than most other styles of guitar playing. Not just technically, but because of the intense feeling that one must always strive to convey. Be that as it may, I find your comments very encouraging!
The rubber fingertips are quite useful for my injured digit, I used nail clippers to cut the pointed rubber dots off the end! :D

I too have a Sigurdson. My blanca has a German spruce top, Spanish cypress sides/back and is otherwise probably the same as yours in most details.

Mine was very cheap because of a cosmetic flaw (just a slight darkening in one spot under the bridge where the French polish had darkened the wood), that no one I know would ever think to look at critically. It was being built to spec (except for tuning machines, it is the perfect example of a blanca) for some semi-famous player and Jeff wanted it to be a perfect display type model of a concert guitar I guess. So when he decided that the guitar had let him down he sold it for $1500 cheaper than the estimated price. Probably to make a quick sale and probably because my teacher had brokered the deal and he's sent a lot of business his way over the years.

Choices in materials make a huge difference. If DG had chosen maple for B&S, it would have been a bit cheaper. If DG had chosen more non-local materials the price would have jumped a lot. But Jeff is really nice to deal with and he will work with you to fit your budget.

Dreadgod, I'm glad to finally see what it looks like. I will give you a warning though, that case won't do much for you regarding humidity protection, so be careful.
I recently got an hygrometer and was surprised to find how often Vancouver's humidity can drop do 30 or below.
