Amplification advice please

Postby TomasJimenez » 31 Jan 2011, 08:51

Hola Amigos
I need some advice about amplification.
I need to buy what I think is called combination amplifier with loud speaker.
This is to help me when I accompany the dance classes.
All my life I have accompanied flamenco dance classes with nothing but if the acoustics of the room are not very good then amplification would help me now.
Is there anything that you can recommend?
I need it to be rather loud but not of course as loud as in a concert hall.
Also I need an appropriate microphone.
Thank you for any suggestions.

Hi Tomás
I think what you need is an acoustic pick up and an acoustic amp unless you already have an electro acoustic guitar .
Have a look at these websites .

hi
forget the pickup if you want to amplify the actual sound of your guitar, can't think of any guitarist who actually uses them in flamenco...though may work well for other styles though most sound feeble when compared to a good Mic.
bartlett microphones are used by many flamenco guitarists...a clip in/high gain system...around $160 US
or spend more on a high quality condensor such as DPA, Sennhieser, Akg or Nuemannn
amps?
AER, Acoustic Image, LR Baggs, fishman etc
or powered PA speaker such as EV, Jbl etc...

This is an old thread and what I am about to write probably won't be useful outside North America, because of shipping costs, but I want to share recent experiences with a supplier of products such as microphones, audio amplifiers, audio mixers, audio recorders, foot controls, cables, adapters, etc. for musicians. They sell other products, such as factory-made guitars, but my experience with them has been limited to electronic items.

It is easy to find electronic equipment and related accessories commonly used in home entertainment systems, but ask at most shops about something more specialized and they probably won't even understand what you are asking about, let alone be able to offer advice or have what you need in stock. I recently purchased some items from Sweetwater in Fort Wayne, Indiana and was sufficiently impressed that I decided to comment about them.

They have a huge inventory that includes most anything a music entertainer might need. They sell at competitive prices. They packed my shipments well. They shipped promptly. They even called after each scheduled day of arrival to make sure I received what I ordered, that it arrived without damage, and that it was going to work for me. A big additional plus is that all their employees who deal with customers have extensive backgrounds in music, recording, and live sound and can tell you what has and has not worked well for them and others they associate with.

This is their website: http://www.sweetwater.com/
Their phone number is: (800) 222-4700

This is a tough and recurring topic. I don't have any particular knowledge but I enjoy reading the comments by a guy on the Delcamp forum. He's a classical guitarist and sound and recording professional also teaching at a US university (as I recall). Just go to http://www.classicalguitardelcamp.com/g ... php?q=DonM and you'll see his various postings on mics and amps, recording and sound. He uses a very minimal outfit for his amped performances.
