Hand disabilities therapy exercises

Postby SamC » 01 Jun 2010, 15:43

I recently underwent nerve conduction test that showed I have both carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndrome in both hands and arms. In the last three months it has gotten serious and one orthopedic doctor is recommending surgery which after doing some research I decided against. I am scheduled to see another doctor Friday about conservative treatment since insurance requires this before paying for surgery which does not have a good results record and would make playing guitar impossible for several weeks and possibly months and could result in permanent damage. This morning I was told about this therapy place near my town that has videos on utube showing exercises that help. I tried them and my hands immediately felt better. I ordered the exercise glove that will eventually cure the problem without surgery. I thought I would share this because all the other splints, bandages, and cures haven't worked.

I still have to live with focal dystonia of the hand, but this device and exercises should take care of the numbness and severe pain I have been having and save me from surgery. It probably will not help my playing, but will keep me from losing use of my hands which is where I was headed with the bi cubital and carpal tunnel.

Hi Sam,
I’m glad to see you are trying an alternative approach instead of surgery. I have come to not trust American Medical methods anymore. It seems that illness and injury are treated with pharmaceuticals and surgery much too readily when there are alternative methods available.

Last year, I fell and injured my hip. I do not have a doctor and tried to heal with rest and extra vitamins. It got worse, then better, then worse again. I had difficulty walking and could not sit and hold my guitar in the guitar position, nor prop it on my thigh for longer than 20 minutes. So I know how frustrating it is for you not to be able to play your guitar properly.

I spoke to a friend who had a hip replacement. Her pre surgery symptoms were just like mine. Before going to the Medical Profession, I went to a chiropractor, mainly to get an inexpensive x-ray to see what damage I had. Happily, no breaks or cracks, but he showed me that my pelvis had been jolted and was “stuck”, limiting movement. An adjustment got it back in place again. I can now walk, sit and play my guitar.

I have to believe that had I gone to a doctor, painkillers, muscle relaxants and possible surgery would have been the answer.

Good luck with your gloves and exercises. Looking forward to hearing you play more.

Thanks Lorette. I received my glove today that strengthens muscles after the exercises to remedy the problem. I used it this morning and my hands already feel a bit better and my fingers work better. I can see this glove would be great for any guitarist to use to strengthen their hands. You can sit and listen to music and exercise your fingers in ways that they get stronger in much less time than hours of guitar practice without chance of damage to hands. It is really a neat invention and great for anyone playing a musical instrument. I am like you and go for conservative treatment. This company understands and caters to musicians.

Hola Sam
If this works for you it will be great.
I think as Lorette says it is good to try other things first before using operations and medicins.
¡Buena suerte!
