Microphones

Postby SamC » 21 Aug 2010, 12:39

Whether recording or amplifying a live performance, picking the right mic is a necessity. Since many flamenco performers have to perform in large places with bad acoustics, the need to amplify becomes necessary. The internet is filled with a lot of information and sometimes misunderstanding on what mic is best for a certain application. The use of too many mics is common. Bob Heil is one of the most knowledgeable audio engineers on microphones. This primer is well worth a read. http://www.heilsound.com/pro/mic-primer/

Sam, I want to buy a quality microphone and wonder if there is anything new since you posted that a year and a half ago that I should look at.

Yes, the new Heil PR31 is being used by several flamenco guitarist that want a high quality natural sound at a low cost in a small microphone. http://www.heilsound.com/pro/products/pr31bw/

One of the features of great appeal is its rejection to side noise. Great feature for groups or noisy places.

There are a great many threads on this topic at Delcamp.net. They have a number of members who are also professional audio engineers. However, the volume of material will make Sam's straight-forward suggestion seem like a life-saver!
