Paco Pena Flamenco Music

Postby dformell » 18 Mar 2011, 01:00

Hello Everybody,

A few people on this forum expressed interest in a transcription of Moruna by Paco Pena. I found an out-of-print book titled: Paco Pena Flamenco Music, I'm going to convert it into an e-book in PDF format. Within the book is a transcription of Arabesca which, except for the ending, is equal to Moruna. For those of you that would like a copy of the book feel free to send me a PM.

Hola Dan

That is incredibly kind of you but do you know if it is legal because of copyright etc?
Thank you anyway.

Hi,

The book is no longer in print. Nobody has raised hell so far and since I'm not selling but sharing I don't think there will be any problems. Mr. Jimenez you brought up a good point. Take care and good luck with your playing.

Hello Everybody,

Almost a year has passed since this post was started and, between this forum and the flamenco foro, an estimated 100 copies of the book have been emailed. Now if the publisher of the book had gone to amazon and used their digital service they probably would be at least $1000.00 dollars richer. It's not big money but it's something. I don't know about the rest of you but I would have gladly paid $20.00 for a digital copy of Mr. Pena's book. Oh well, if these publishers aren't going to utilize technology we are going to move forward without them.

Payul,
This is great. Thank you for the valuable information.
Roland

Dan,
As someone working in the periphery of the publications industry, I share Tomas' concern about copyright issues, which do not necessarily depend on whether or not you have commercial interests.

Just a reminder that Moruna and other great Paco Pena pieces are available from Alain Faucher. He has a great selection of transcriptions from flamenco legends. The price per piece goes down if you order 4 transcriptions. (4 for the price of 3) It's not that clear on his web site but you need to order and pay for 3 and email him your selection for your free piece. The free piece can be chosen from his entire catalogue, not just from that short list he has posted. This was what the 2011 spring news letter stated and he has honoured that.
The most difficult part is selecting just 4 pieces. I am a great supporter of Alain Faucher and very grateful for the service he is providing to the flamenco community. Where else could you go to get such a great selection of transcriptions from Sabicas, Paco Pena, Nino Ricardo etc.

Hello Everybody,

Thank you guys for your input. I honestly thought the book was out of print. I searched the internet for the book over a year ago and found a used copy on amazon. During my internet search the general consensus was that the book was no longer available. Some people, both from this forum and foro flamenco, had expressed interest in the book and were unable to find a copy. So I digitized the book and made it available to everyone. Do I feel guilty? Just a little. Why? Because the publisher is not making the book readily available or utilizing technology. The publisher could easily make Mr. Pena's book available through amazon but doesn't. Bladmuziekshop is not easy to find on the internet and is in Dutch. When I did my internet search tor Mr. Pena's book over a year ago I could not find the Bladmuziekshop website. Do they ship internationally? I don't know as I'm not fluent with the Dutch language. On a personal note, I would have loved to seen the 50 - 60 copies that were freely given away over the last year be sold by Bladmuziekshop so that, along with the publisher & Mr. Pena, they could have profited. But, at the risk of being redundant, they didn't make the book readily available by utilizing technology. This is the 21st century; there is no need to wait, waste energy or time to obtain sheet music. Scanners and adobe acrobat have been around for over twenty years and amazon is in it's 17th year. Publishers, get with the program! If you are not going to utilize technology we are moving forward without you.

Dan

P.S. I'm going to post the Bladmuziekshop link on the foro flamenco website.

Hi Dan,

I think the book-world make the same mistakes as the music (cd.) world in the past.
They running behind the facts.

By the way I just followed the link to your youtube page and I enjoyed your playing so much. Your tone is beautiful..I wish I could make such a tone but I think I play too hard from so much accompanying dancers. Oh and your Gerundino is superb.
