Hola from London!

Dear members,

I live in London UK. I went to Andalucia as a kid round 1974 and was exposed to Flamenco at that time. It is probably the first live music I ever heard. One of my Grandmother was spanish so I choosed a login name in remembrance of her, her name was Fernanda Gomez.

I have been playing Rock and Blues guitar ( mostly electric ) for 25 years with the last 10 spent on sudying Jazz guitar ( mostly 1930s and 40s styles ). I have been dabbling for years with the Phrygian mode having discovered the "Flamenco Spanish scale" in a 1980s book called Heavy Metal Lead Guitar Volume 2 by Troy Stetina and I have finally decided to jump in and try to learn how to play traditional flamenco as opposed to dabbling.

I am a big fan of Diego Del Gastor and Melchor de Marchena. Right now I am working on Dennis Koster's Guitar Atlas Flamenco book, mostly familiarizing myself with the basics of palos and techniques. After I intend to work on Juan Martin's "El Arte Flamenco de la Guitarra".

Welcome to the group Fabricio.

Many of us, of course, share your appreciation of Diego Del Gastor and Melchor de Marchena. Dennis Koster's Guitar Atlas Flamenco and Juan Martin's "El Arte Flamenco de la Guitarra" are both useful tutorials, so it seems that you are headed in the right direction.

Do you have a traditional flamenco guitar?

Hi Bob,

I used a Yamaha CG171SF until now and have just found a beaten-up Alhambra 7FC on Ebay.

Thanks!

Welcome to the foro and you live in a place that has a lot of flamenco activity. I would recommend contacting Tomas Jimenez. He can no doubt be an asset in your flamenco journey.
