Hola from Tampa

Postby Dewdrop93 » 20 Sep 2011, 02:53

Hello, all.

I'm a bailaora. I've been dancing for five years now. I have always loved dancing, and hardly know why I asked for flamenco lessons as a birthday present- I didn't know much about it. But I started lessons, and fell in love. I just moved to Tampa, and have yet to find an instructor here, but I will soon! My favorite palos are solea and guajira, but I love them all. Current goals: master turns (I think my inner ear is seriously defective), and learn a seguirillas.

Welcome to the forum. I hope your inner ear doesn't have a problem. I am not a dancer, but have inner ear damage and it really messes up everything. I might suggest you watch videos on You Tube of Angelita Vargas, Jairo Barrull, and Pepe Torres. Angelita is probably the best living authentic flamenco dancer and was teaching in Sevilla until she had a recent stroke. Lots of flamencos in Florida so you should find a good teacher.

Here are some Tampa flamenco dance instructors Sandra Serrano, Esther Suarez-Moreno & Victor Moreno, and Curra Alba.

Although I get on fine with all the guitarists here I do especially like it when non guitarists flamenco join too.
Enjoy

Thank you for all the help, Sam! It's much easier to find instructors if you have a name. It's probably unfair of me to blame my inner ears for my inability to do all those beautiful turns other dancers do (without falling over.) I'm just clumsy, I guess. *sigh* Someday, I will get them right! :) Gracias por tu bienvenido, Tomas!
