Hola!

Hello,

I'm Richard, I have lived in Hong Kong for almost 30 years, and I'm grey but still young enough to want to play flamenco well. I'm a long-time guitar wannabe who has finally reached flamenco via a circuitous route. So I invested in two good guitars and started taking lessons from a local guitarist who spent three years in Seville learning his technique. I've a lot of bad habits to unlearn and a lot of compas to get into and stay in. Currently working on soleas as my first task. Much prefer the traditional flamenco style to the modern guitar riff style of playing. Glad to join in and hope to learn from more experienced gitanos.

Richard, Welcome to the forum and hope to hear more about your interest in flamenco. It is good you found a teacher that knows flamenco. Look forward to hearing your playing on our members audio and video section.

Welcome. Hong Kong is one of my favorite places. I used to spend a lot of time there.

I think that having a teacher for flamenco is more important than for other styles, for several reasons. It's often hard to hear flamenco live, feeling the compass is easier with another guitar in the same room and playing ensemble is a core of flamenco.

Thank you. I am doubly lucky in that my teacher's wife also teaches baile and they regularly perform together and have a tranche of students with whom, one day, I hope to be able to accompany. Many students are Japanese or Chinese. Flamenco is surprisingly popular here - the world is shrinking. We are all getting together on Saturday for a jurga. Should be fun. I look forward from learning from you guys.

Best
