Saludos from Pennsylvania!

Hi Everybody!
May I introduce myself? I am a hobby guitarist from Pennsylvania, USA, with a passion for music in general and flamenco in particular. Almost as much as playing flamenco guitar, I love listening to cante (my yet unrealized dream is to accompany a singer). Books by Juan Martin and Paco Pena were my teachers; the insane virtuosity of Paco Cepero and Paco De Lucia made me give up flamenco in frustration for many years. But now I am at it again, thanks to the internet (youtube) - the perfect teacher for those having trouble reading scores, like me. My guitar heroes? There are many, from Ramon Montoya to Gerardo Nunez. However, my favorites will always be Sabicas and Paco de Lucia, perhaps because I tried so hard (mostly unsuccessfully) to play their music.

Looking forward to hearing from you. - Viva el arte!

Hi Flamencoblues,

A little late...Welcome to the foro. I haven't been here in a while, so now I'm trying to catch up.

Like your self, I too long to play with a singer, but that will never happen. See my last post on "A Mother's Lament", where I mention a DVD movie by Carlos Saura called "Flamenco. I think you will like this film. Definitely Old School.

Lorette,
Thank you for your welcome! I love the movie and actually saw it, when it was originally released (a long time ago). Most, if not all, of the movie is posted in parts on youtube. There are definitely some great performances of traditional cante and baile.
