Tomás, the optional LAME MP3 encoder library is required for Audacity to be able export MP3 files, but I didn't think anything extra was required to import them. I can import them without any difficulty, but I have lots of things installed that you many not have. I suggest that you go to http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/beta_windows and install the four plug-ins and libraries under "Optional Downloads" to find whether code in one of them gives Audacity MP3 import capability. Let me know whether that corrects the problem.

Plenty of other programs could be used to pre-convert WAV files to MP3, but solving the problem that way will make future usage unnecessary complicated. We should instead enable MP3 compatibility in Audacity.

Tomás, I just checked the Audacity documentation which states that it directly supports the importation of WAV, AIFF, AU, MP2/MP3, and OGG Vorbis format files.

How was your big MP3 file created? Are you sure it is a properly-encoded, standard MP3 file? Have you tried importing other MP3 files directly into Audacity?

Hola Amigos

You were right Bob in that MP3 etc was no problem. I did install the extras you recommended and maybe that helped.

So far I have been able to split up along track into 7 different tracks so I am happy about that.
Many thanks.
