Agujetas y Moraito

Postby TheTocaor » 23 Jun 2010, 02:27

Hello,

when I think of old school flamenco, I always think of El Agujetas because he is obviously a throw back to that old school flamenco, the real thing. I find he sounds best with Moraito accompanying since Moraito Chico himself is a bit of a purist, in the sense that he is all about compas as opposed to playing the most difficult and fastest runs possible. They make an awesome pair as in Dominique Abel's movie about Agujetas. Here is some footage I have never seen but it looks very promising!

Hi Tocaor,

What is the name of Dominique Abel's movie about Agujetas? Maybe I can find it on Netflix or on the internet. Unfortunately, I have a slow telephone modem, so I am unable to view this You Tube video.

Hola Tocaor
Thank you so much for this.
Here is an idea which might get me some enemies but OK here it is.
Agujetas probaly is a great cantaor but he looks like he is a great cantaor and he has the facial expressions of a great cantaor.
I have no doubt that you know what you think without the aspect of someone but I sometimes wonder if some people are successful because they look right more than because they in fact are good.
Naranjito does not look right and he does not dress right or act right........... I wonder how good he really is.
My opinion is that as a cantaor is a great deal better than he looks like he should be.
Just a thought amigos! 8-)
Saludos cordiales

Hey Tomas,

hmm well I can't deny Agujetas is sometimes great and sometimes not; like most of the old school singers no? But yes he does have the look going as well! Oh! Dominique Abel's movie is called Agujetas Cantaor I think. It is very interesting. The performance is mostly in small bar with only family and friends. Great atmosphere. There is also a cd which is probably the best Agujetas has ever recorded in my opinion. I am currently listening again and again to Chocolate and Nino Ricardo. A deadly combination! I wish it was a triple cd!
