First of all I can not play like Rene, not even close.
I think the sound was awsome but I did not get a feeling of him enjoying playing the Columbiana.
If my appreciation was incorrect let me know so I learn what to look for?

Hola Sam
Thank you very much for sharing this Colombiana.
It is a sweet piece and great to see a young player playing it.
It is a piece that I play from time to time but I tend to change things a little. Maybe I play the same falsetas in a diffrent order and sometimes I play other falsetas or try to improvise but I think it is a great piece any way just as it is.
Saludos
Tomás

Hola Ram
In my own opinion I am not sure if there can be an incorrect appreciation.
We are all free to receive the music as we feel it. And so you also have the right to your own feeling.
I enjoyed his playing. I felt that I might have enjoyed the rajeos more if they were a little more tight and it could be a little more sweet.
But these observations are only a matter of personal taste and I would congratulate this guitarist on his work so far.
Saludos cordiales

Tomas is correct, there is no incorrect feeling in flamenco. Not all listeners get the same feeling the player is expressing. I think we could say that sometimes a feeling a player is trying to express is inappropriate, but not incorrect. For example taking a siguiriyas and trying to make it sound happy and sweet, instead of expressing sorrow. It could be the way the player expresses sorrow or just the feeling they receive when playing siguiriyas and to the average listener be an inappropriate expression, but no one can say it is incorrect. Flamenco is all about feeling. It was created to express feeling musically. rather than talking, it was more expressive and effective to sing. As other joined with dance, palmas, and guitar then compas became necessary. In todays high technique flamenco I think we sometimes lose the feeling of the palos, but this is again a matter of opinion.

Sahir is a unique player with his own style and interpretations. He does everything from flamenco to the Beatles in his own way. Check out his utube videos. Being from the Philippines his native culture no doubt influences his interpretations and puts an interesting flavor to his playing. Here is one of his originals. Not flamenco or is it? It expresses the story of Moses. Maybe a new free form palo?

Manos Lentas:

I have learned from your post as well as Tomas.
I have been trying for the past couple of years to pay closer attention flamenco. When I first started it seem so simple "here is a set of palos and they follow a certain pattern", so what is the big deal, learn them and that is it. How wrong was I, the more I learn the more complex it got.
On the other hand, I heard a Soleares being played, the other night, that was very simple and not very long, but it was played in such a way that it made me feel so moved.
