Tanguillos de Cadiz

Postby Flamencoblues » 06 Dec 2010, 04:16

Always wondered what the relationship between Tanguillos and Tangos is and finally did some research on youtube. It seems compas and aire of the two are quite different. Here are 2 examples of "Tanguillos de Cadiz", a very charming guitar solo by Melchor de Marchena and a version by Pericon de Cadiz. In addition, I embedded Paco de Lucia's beautiful but more abstract masterpiece "Casilda".
Also, I would be happy to know what Pericon is singing about.

Love the Pericon. The guitar sounds very much like Melchor and definitely all Cadiz. Paco de Lucia loses the feeling in my opinion. His latin jazz sound doesn't have the Cadiz feel or flavor. Fancy technique but I just was left cold with it. Paco de Amparo is Diego's grandnephew. Below Fernandez shows examples of the difference in feel with the tangos and tanguillo.
