What Book is this from?

Postby SamC » 12 Oct 2008, 11:19

What Juan Martin book is this from? I am not a Juan Martin fan, but some of his stuff is great old school basics. I play bits and pieces of a similar Bulerias poorly and would like to get the book and CD this is from but don't want to buy a whole load of flamenco books trying to find it.

She assembled her Bulerías from three Juan Martin tutorials. The first part she plays is Juan Martin's Bulerias (i) starting on Page 74 of his "El Arte Flamenco de la Guitarra" Volume 1. Then she continues on to play portions from his Bulerías (ii) (Page 80), Bulerías (iii) (Page 94), and Bulerías (Page 146) in "El Arte Flamenco de la Guitarra" Volume II. However, some parts she plays toward the end come from Juan Martin's "La Guitarra Flamenca" Lesson 4. That lesson includes a basic Bulerias, variations of various types, "Bulerías al glope" in the style of Diego del Gastor, and using Bulerias to end other toques, such as Soleá and Alegrias.

Thanks Bob and I want to point out that many of the falsetas are old classic Jerez bulerias falsetas. They are not original Juan Martin, so if one is anti Juan Martin, don't overlook this good material because of personal prejudice.

Juan Martin states that his tutorials contain both traditional flamenco and his original compositions. They can be of considerable value to someone wanting to learn traditional flamenco. Most Juan Martin criticism is from people who don't like traditional flamenco and/or from those who have been offended by what they consider to be exaggerated claims in relatively recent Juan Martin concert promotional materials. Someone who wants to learn nuevo flamenco probably should study something else, but it is foolish for someone who wants to learn traditional flamenco to overlook useful study materials merely because they are offended by advertising materials the author used to promote something different many years later.
