Just completed: Maple flamenco guitar by Peter Tsiorba

Postby Peter Tsiorba » 20 Jul 2009, 00:04

Hello friends,

Another guitarra flamenca was just born. This time it is European maple and German spruce. Couple of interesting details: Golpeadores are made out of maple, instead of clear plastic. Bridge is only 5mm tall--very low clearance between strings and soundboard. Super comfortable to play. Very light guitar. Bracing is nearly a copy of one of M. Barbero flamenco guitars. She is ready to take her journey to Manhattan, NY to meet the musician who ordered her. Safe journeys!

Beautiful guitar Peter. Wish I had the money and need for another guitar and I would have you make me one just like this, but without the sound port or the rest. I like the maple both for B & S and the golpedors. Also the black rollers on the machines. It would be nice to hear the sound of this guitar. Barbero is a great design.

I'll try to post a sound bite if I get a chance to have one recorded.

Okay, I got a very crude, one-take simple clip recorded. I asked the player to not do "golpe" so that tap plates stay fresh for the new owner. Sound is not processed in any way, no effects, just straight off the stereo mics of TASCAM DR-1.

Very flamenco sounding and has the tone expected from maple. I am guessing in a year or two this guitar will really open up. A suggestion on how to protect the new golpeadors from scratch during testing is to use a piece of thin plastic like they use on electronics face plates and appliances. It can be removed without any finish damage or even knowing it was there. Maybe some day when I am in Portland, I will stop by for a visit. I haven't been there for over a year now.
