A Mother's Lament

Postby Lorette » 13 Jun 2010, 04:19

Since I have a very slow dialup modem, it’s difficult to upload large files (4 to 5 Mb is large for me), so I keep my music files on a web storage site called Box.com.

I dedicate this Siguiriyas to the Chavez family who lost their 2 year old child while on a family outing at Chimney Rock Mountain Park, North Carolina. http://www.box.net/shared/o73vvp3eqv

I cannot sing, so my guitar will tell the story of what started as a happy family outing.
A small child on a mountain trail.
Then he is gone.
Fallen to his death from the steep mountain side.

The mother is devastated.
She cries out in anguish.
She blames herself
She thinks of the joy he has given.

At the funeral, she wants to die also.
She cries out in anguish
But she remembers her other child
He needs her now more than ever.

With a heavy heart
She returns home
To care for her family
I cannot sing, so my guitar will tell the story.

Very nice well played siguiriyas and most appropriate for the situation. Your verse was very touching. This is what flamenco is all about.

Thank you for your kind words, Sam.

From my intro when I first joined this foro, you know I have limited experience. My knowledge comes from a visit to Spain many years ago, one year of flamenco lessons , reading, listening to CD's and watching DVD's of this wonderful culture.

I have always wanted to learn how to accompany a singer. Since I will never have that opportunity, I have been attempting to accompany the singers on an excellent DVD movie called "Flamenco", a film by Carlos Saura.

In this documentary, he gathered together three hundred of the worlds greatest flamenco performers, all Old School and some of the performers are seniors, and had them do their thing in a huge disused Seville railway station. A movie worth seeing and learning from.
