Solea por medio (Juan Martin)

Postby Flamencoblues » 06 Nov 2010, 17:36

This is the final falseta of lesson 19 in Juan Martin's "Arte Flamenco" (with minor modifications). The intro contains a remate by Juan Habichuela.

Ole! Guess I need to go dig out my Arte books and work on that one. I cannot make it sound quite the same because my fingers will not separate for a slow clean rasqueado, so I have to use 2 fast ones to fill the same time or sometimes I use p and I for a similar effect. Very played and nice dynamics.

Sam,
Thank you very much. In the video I used mainly the old-school eamii rasgueda which I am very fond of but which is really quite difficult and strenuous even for healthy fingers. I also often use pai or pei and wonder whether this would be an option for you.

You play that better (with more typical flamenco expression) than Juan Martin did on his tutorial CD.

I hear some great ambiente here..sounds like our bodega is going very well!
( bodega: my little joke: I said before that this foro is like a bodega where the flamencos go but the tourists do not!!)

FB, I would agree that your sound and feel is much better than Juan's.
Bob, That is a good point that when using methods, the student must find their own sound because usually tutorial material is focused on the mechanics. Counting compas for example is mechanical opposed to feeling it. The listener cannot feel it if the player doesn't.
Tomas, Yes I remember the comment on the bodega and a few tourist do find us, but don't stay long because they do not understand what we all do. Everyone is welcome to take a turn performing even if they can only strum three chords.
