Tanguillo por Diego del Gastor

Postby SamC » 04 Nov 2009, 19:04

Here is my attempt to learn this beautiful Tanguillo by Diego del Gastor. My playing is not so beautiful with lots of dead notes and some possible rhythm problems, but wanted to get your opinions if it sounds anything close correct for a Tanguillo. As usual I play what sounds great to me, then I turn on the recorder and kill notes and rush phrases, etc. Anyway here it is in the rough....

Yes, it sounds like a Tanguillo. Your playing continues to improve over time.

I think most people who play a musical instrument tend play better when they play alone without either a live audience or a tape recorder running. At least I do. I don't feel nervous playing for others, but I rarely play as well as when I play alone.

That probably changes in some cases as entertainers become both very good at playing and accustomed to playing in public. Someone like that may perform better before live audiences because of the psychological effects of positive feedback from satisfied listeners, but until someone reaches a high level of accomplishment they are apt to play best when no one else is able to listen.
