Mission Statement - Why An Old School Flamenco Foro?
We realize that it is impossible to make a clear cut division between old school flamenco and modern flamenco in terms of either a specific date or even decade or in terms of a specific artist or group of artists. Nonetheless, there is a very definite difference in the style of playing and the sound of the music when one compares early flamenco masters such as Manolo de Huelva, Nino Ricardo, and Melchor de Marchena with the current or modern flamenco masters such as Paco de Lucia, Manolo Sanlucar, Vicente Amigo, et al.
Given these pronounced differences in the style of playing, for the purpose of this forum old school flamenco will be considered to be that style and sound that most resembles the early flamenco masters. We realize, of course, that there is a large gray area and a significant element of overlap so absolute precision is not possible nor is it intended.
